How Much Sleep Does My Child Need?

By Georgia Hayward, Certified Infant & Toddler Sleep CoachSleep Totals by Age
Every child is different, but current recommendations suggest the following total sleep across a 24-hour period (including naps and overnight sleep):
0 - 3 months: 14–17 hours
4 - 11 months: 12–15 hours
1 - 2 years: 11–14 hours
3 - 4 years: 10–13 hours
Averages, Not Targets
These figures are averages rather than targets. Just as adults have different sleep needs, children do too. Some babies and toddlers naturally need more sleep, while others need less.
Rather than focusing solely on the numbers, look at the bigger picture. Is your child generally happy, alert and developing well? If so, they may simply have different sleep needs to another child of the same age.
There is a wide range of what is considered normal, and every child is unique.
Tender Loving Sleep offers two packages depending on your child's age: Newborn Essentials (£100, 0–12 weeks) and the Signature 1:1 Sleep Plan (£300, 5 months - 4 years).
